FAQ
Questions we get from Florida families.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long will a Florida Chicken Coop last?
Built with the materials and methods we use, the structure itself will last decades. The pressure-treated foundation lumber, cedar or cypress siding, insulated metal roof, and corrosion-resistant hardware are all specified for long-term performance in Florida's climate. We build it to outlast the flock — and the next several flocks after that.
How many hens can I keep?
Small: up to 6 hens. Medium: 6–10 hens. Large: 10–15 hens. Custom builds available for larger flocks.
Is keeping chickens legal where I live?
Chicken regulations can vary widely across Florida depending on your county, city, municipality, and HOA. Because we serve customers throughout the entire state, we recommend checking your local guidelines before purchasing to confirm what's permitted in your area. In most cases, backyard hens are allowed with reasonable limitations, but requirements can differ from one neighborhood to the next. Ultimately, confirming local compliance is the homeowner's responsibility.
What's included in the price?
Every standard model includes the fully built coop, delivery, on-site placement, and ground anchoring within Broward, Miami-Dade, and Homestead. Statewide delivery is available for $2 per mile beyond our included service area.
How long does it take to receive my coop?
Lead times vary by season and order volume. We'll quote a delivery window during your initial conversation.
What happens during a hurricane?
Our coops are engineered with Simpson Strong-Tie hurricane connectors and ground-anchored at installation — built to withstand significant wind loads. For named hurricanes, we still recommend bringing your flock indoors temporarily (a garage works fine), but the structure itself is designed to stay put.
Why is the coop fully open inside?
Florida's heat and humidity require maximum airflow. Closed coops trap ammonia, moisture, and bacteria — the root cause of most flock health issues in our climate. Our open design eliminates dead air zones and dramatically reduces disease risk. It's also far easier to clean.
Can I customize my coop?
Yes — we offer customization options for some aspects of our coops. If you have something specific in mind, tell us what you're envisioning and we'll let you know whether we can accommodate it. We're always happy to explore custom solutions when possible.
Do you offer financing?
We currently offer a flexible layaway program in place of traditional financing. Your purchase can be split into payments over a 3-month period, and once the balance is paid in full, we'll begin building your coop. It's a simple way to reserve your coop while spreading payments out over time.
Where do you deliver?
Statewide Florida. Delivery is included within Broward, Miami-Dade, and Homestead. Anywhere else in Florida, delivery is $2 per mile.
